WLAN Access Point from Nokia

According to Guy Kewney at newswireless.net, Nokia's newest addition to the WLAN access point market has a flaw. It supports Power over Ethernet, a feature that is meant to be cost-reducing, because it measn less cabling. Unfortunately there is no standard as to which wires should be used for which polarity, meaning a high risk that incompatible equipment means fried equipment, not exactly prize-reducing.

The official press-release from Nokia, Nokia launches a new access point to bring style and convenience to public wireless LANs, focuses on the factg that this AP is specifically designed for deployment in public hotspots, where restaurant owners etc., might be picky about the design of the ap. Fair enough, after all Nokia has a long tradition for good design, and probably less of a tradition for good technology.
