Nokia is working hard on 802.11 to cellular hand-off including handsets that support both types of wireless networks, and the carrier systems to support such switching technology. This infoworld article deals with the real issues, namely managing networks based on 2 technologies that are so different in their idea and history. Whatever happens expect to see a lot more talk about bridging that gap in the coming months.

Nokia executives have revealed plans to deliver high-end cellular handsets that seamlessly switch between 802.11b and public carrier networks in an effort to transform handsets into terminals capable of consuming composite applications.
