WiFi in Austria
Alan Reiter posts about an extension to the services of Austrian wISP metronet:
Reiter's Wireless Data Web Log :
Metronet also promotes WiFi for the home and home offices and has a special price that combines home use with public hotspot use. The company offers contract service as well as prepaid cards. WiFi in Austria isn't cheap, but someone has to pay for it to create a viable business!
Why am I interested? Because I happen to be in Austria quite often, living in an apartment with no connectivity (not even a fixed-line phone, so it's either WiFi or cell-phone roaming. I've used the metronet services before, and apart from the horrendous pricing, it's very convenient. They have active hotspots at so many cafe in Vienna that there is pretty much always one within a few hundred meters in the center of the city. It's broadband, and since I have yet to see anyone else use their service at the same time as me, there's never any bandwidth issues. So apart from the fact that it's ruinously expensive, I have few complaints.
And unfortunately there seem to be no NodeDB AP's in the center of the city...
