Vienna Airport

Heavy fog in Copenhagen. Airport closed. Hours of delays in Vienna. Leads to a nice discovery. Vienna Airport looks like it's blanketed in free WiFi coverage....

being delayed, and having promised a client that i'd finish some minor work (on-line) by this evening, i booted my laptop on the of-chance that there'd be some kind of WiFi service I could hack into. No need....

There's a WiFi network, ESSID='Wireless Vienna Airport', with a captive portal.

If your wireless adapter is set up normally, all you have to do is open a browser and go to some address, and you get forwarded to a page from the Vienna Airport with a connect buttin on it. Click, and your on.

So far I've tested it in the terminal C boarding area, as well as in the Airest restaurant in the shopping area. Great signal both places, and it seems like a fast connection.

UPDATE: A little research has resolved the nature of this free access. Apparently it's a service of the Airport in collaboration with Cisco, and described as a Trial service for now. No info on what the price will ultimately be, but I hope they don't take their cues from metronet.
