San Fransisco Based WiFi MEtro and Green Packet have announced a 90-day field trial of seamless roaming between the WiFi Metro, WLAN network and cellular networks. German Mobile giant T-Online also announced a move into WLAN, and a plan to establish HotSpots throughout cities in it's home market. The almost daily announcements of mobile operators into this field, shows that the threat (and opportunity) of WLAN in a 3G world is perceived as real.

British 3G operator (BT spin-off) mmO2 has entered the handheld market with their new combination device. The O2 XDA is a combined pocket windows handheld and mobile phone.
