off-line web

Off-line internet.
BBC this story on BBC is about a technican with a laptop who drives around to villages in India with downloaded, off-line content from the web. users can read the available pages and order other pages which then arrive after a day or two.

it reminds me of a story that cory told me when he was in copenhagen in early june. he talked about some friends of his who, having unsuccesfully tried to explain the www, to villagers in an african village they were visiting, instead tried to explained google. "It's a giant collection of knowledge, and when you ask it a question it gives many answers and you have to decide which is the best for you". The result of this was that the villagers would snalmail them questiosn, which they would proceed to google, and print and snailmail the top-10 responses.
