Mobile Operators flock to WLAN

German Mobile giant T-Online also announced a move into WLAN, and a plan to establish HotSpots throughout cities in it's home market. The almost daily announcements of mobile operators into this field, shows that the threat (and opportunity) of WLAN in a 3G world is perceived as real. The real wonder is why some operators haven't started this trend yet....

And the real worry is that the commercialisation of WLAN will make it difficult for open network groups to maintain functioning networks. In a battle for spectrum, and avoiding interference, I would put my money (in the short term) on the big-money lobbyists of the business world.

I jsut hope that some sensible forms of cooperation can be achieved...
