It's started.....
Geekhalla, G2, My geekcorps volunteership, phase X of my life or just plain Ghana.
Call it what you will, but i feel in my gut that this is and will be important for my life. the direction i take always depends on circumstance and chance. in this case the circumstance is a 3 months Internet volunteer project in Ghana for geekcorps.
For the next 3 and a half months, this page will chronicle my experiences, living with seven other geeks, trying to help a partner business in Accra, Ghana.
Other sources of information will be geekhalla, our groups web-site, where i will always be writing. And rumour has it, we might also show up on CNN, some time in february. So watch that media.
At the moment, i'm sitting in North Adams, MAssachussets, in geekcorps offices, on the premises of the Massachusets Museum of Contemporary Art (MassMoCA). Yesterday we started what will be 10 days of training in cultural differences, preparing for our specific projects, getting to know each other and generally trying to prepare ourselves for the inevitable slight culture shock.
You see, this is much more than travelling to a foreign country, this is 3 months of real interaction, with real ghanaian businesses, trying to accomplish, real and ambitious business goals, in an incredibly short time. it rocks.
the project, the idea, the concept, but above all the people here are great.
i'm sure this experience, will be one of those that changes y outlook on life, the universe and everything, bringing me, as a pesron, closer to where i want to be.... there's is an infinetely long way to go, but any step in the general direction is a strategic advance.....
granted, leaving behind an interesting job, with the best colleagues, a great family, and above all, my true love, was never an easy decision. but the support and back-up i got made it all easier. and i'm sure this will be a great experience.
well, there's really not that much i can tell you at this point, since there isn't that much i know. but keep an eye on this spot and geekhalla, for further chronicles of "The Adventures of T in Africa"
enjoy life
