FAQ on ICT for development

I'm working on an FAQ for ICT in development issues. Mostly trying to offset some of the frequent questions about the suitability of wireless, but also more generally about ICTs for development. Nothing spectacularly revolutionary, but just an atempt at clarifying my position on some important questions, such as:

  • Isn't food and medicine more important than technology?
  • Why wireless? Isn't it less stable and more expensive than wired technologies?
  • Why are you so focused on Open Source, Open Spectrum and Open Specifications?
  • But today's open Wi-Fi systems are made for deployment in offices and homes, and not for complex infrastructure. Why not use carrier-grade technology?
  • What is meshing?
  • What about the legal situation and the tyranny of telecom monopolies in the developing world?
  • Why do you think you will have success when so many development projects have failed so miserably?

I hope this will help me answer some of my own questions concisely, and maybe some else will enjoy it too.

Expect the first version to be on-line some time early next week.
