Amazing resource on ICT fro development
The Canadian Aid Agency IDRC, has a fabulous research project called Acacia.
- demonstrate how ICTs can enable communities to solve their development problems in ways that build firmly on local goals, cultures, strengths, and processes;
- build a body of knowledge capable of identifying the policies, technologies, approaches, and methodologies instrumental in promoting the affordable and effective use of ICTs by marginalized communities, such as women.
Now they also have a great on-line resource full of research results from the myriad projects funded through Acacia.
One of the Acacia projects that, although it's closing on it's fourth year is still remarkably useful is the wireless toolbox. It's easily the most comprehensive run-through of wireless technologies seen from the perspective of remote, difficult access in the developing world.
